Last checked: October 2, 2026.
This Minnesota State Fair guide combines announced next-edition dates with clearly dated information from the completed 2026 fair. The 2026 event ran August 27–September 7. The official homepage now lists August 26–Labor Day, September 6, 2027. Information was checked October 2, 2026; old ticket prices, attractions and operating hours should not be treated as confirmed 2027 offers.

Choose a focus before choosing a route
The fair’s exhibit directory spans agriculture, art and learning: Crop Art, butter sculptures, Fine Arts, Eco Experience, Alphabet Forest and Math On-A-Stick are among its listed experiences. The rides directory separately includes Mighty Midway, Kidway, Giant Slide, SkyGlider and Skyride. Check the program for the year you attend before making a must-do list.
Decide whether your day is mainly about food, exhibits, animals, rides or a performance. Choose two priorities and arrange the rest around them. A food-focused visit benefits from leaving appetite and time between stops; an exhibit-focused visit benefits from checking building hours before planning an evening arrival.
Do not use a list of famous fair attractions as a route by itself. Mark each choice on the official map and group nearby stops. If the route repeatedly crosses the grounds, remove an optional stop or move it to another part of the day.
Use 2026 prices only as a budgeting reference
The fair’s January 2026 announcement set adult gate admission at $20 for ages 13–64, $18 for seniors 65+ and children 5–12, and free admission for ages four and under. Pre-fair tickets were $17 through August 26, and onsite car parking was $25. These are completed-edition figures.
For a new visit, compare the current advance price with any day-specific discount that applies to your group. Read age limits carefully and add fees where shown. Buying early is useful only after you are confident about the ticket’s valid dates and the conditions you accept.
Keep a separate allowance for rides, meals and any ticketed performance. A low admission price does not establish the full cost of the day. Decide beforehand which extras matter, and compare a bundle with what you would otherwise buy rather than assuming every included item has value to you.
Know which bus service you are using
The official transport page distinguishes free Park & Ride service from Metro Transit, MVTA and SouthWest Transit express services that charge a bus fare. It also lists onsite parking, bicycle parking and taxi or rideshare information. Free parking at a bus departure point does not necessarily mean the bus itself is free.
Check the exact operator, location, date and final return departure for the service you choose. Save the lot name, not merely a nearby street address. A large event can have several departure points with different operating patterns, so a general search for a shuttle is not enough.
For driving, have a backup plan if your preferred facility is full. For public transport, include the time spent reaching the boarding area and waiting after the fair. The best option is the one that works for the whole party on the return trip as well as on arrival.
Balance the famous stops with a discovery
Choose one familiar attraction and one that gives you a different kind of experience. A visual-art display after a busy ride area, or an agricultural exhibit between food stops, can make the day feel more varied without requiring constant movement.
Read the daily schedule for performances, demonstrations and competitions. Put timed activities into your plan first and fit flexible exhibits around them. Do not assume an exhibit’s listed opening time is the same as the admission gate or the final fair-closing time.
The official FAQ describes the fair’s app as a source for food and shopping finders, daily schedules, Grandstand information, hours and transport. Save a few essential details offline as well, especially the meeting point and your way home. A digital plan is useful only while your phone remains available.
Leave room for food and rest
Choose a small food shortlist and look up where the vendors are before setting off. Decide whether the group will share tastes or buy separate meals. Give anyone with a dietary need time to check vendor details directly; popularity or a short menu description does not answer every ingredient question.
Put a seated rest into the plan even if you usually prefer to keep moving. It gives you a chance to check how the group is feeling and whether the remaining route still makes sense. Carry only what you can comfortably manage through your intended visit.
Families can use our Minnesota State Fair with kids guide for Little Farm Hands, Kidway and animal-exhibit choices. A shorter day with a few well-chosen stops can be more useful than trying to experience every area.
Recheck the edition before booking
The 2027 dates are announced, but a page can display those dates in its header while still carrying a 2026 attraction schedule below. Read the dates inside the actual ticket or event listing. Do not interpret a sitewide new-year banner as confirmation that every detail has been updated.
Before paying, confirm the year, daily hours, admission category, ride or concert inclusions and transport arrangements together. Keep your booking confirmations in one place and review organizer updates close to your visit. That final check protects the practical plan you have already made.
