October 13, 2026 update: The organizer’s hours page confirms Thursday–Sunday opening at noon through November 1. Monday–Wednesday are closed. Last entry is 9 p.m. Thursday/Sunday and 10 p.m. Friday/Saturday; those admission cutoffs are not fixed carnival closing times.

Last checked: October 2, 2026.

The Arizona State Fair runs October 1–November 1, 2026, but it is open only Thursday through Sunday. That operating pattern is the first detail to settle before arranging a Phoenix visit. Next, decide whether your priority is rides, a concert or a broader afternoon of exhibits and food: each choice changes the ticket and arrival plan. This Arizona State Fair guide covers the practical differences.

Choose an open day and an arrival window

The fair is not a daily event throughout its month-long season. Use the Thursday–Sunday calendar even if you see a listing that shows only the opening and closing dates. A Monday trip to Phoenix does not become a fair day simply because it falls between October 1 and November 1.

The published last-entry time is a gate cutoff, not a guaranteed closing time for every activity. The organizer says the carnival’s finish depends on attendance and event activity. Barns close at 9 p.m., while the listed exhibition halls and marketplace close at 10 p.m. Plan your must-see exhibit before its own closing time. Official hours and admission.

Buy the ticket for the experience you want

Adult, child and senior admission prices are shown in the quick facts. The official Etix child-ticket selector explicitly says ages 4 and younger are free, although the fair’s general information uses the less precise wording ‘under 4.’ For a four-year-old, keep the current ticket listing available and confirm if that wording changes. Official admission ticket listing.

A general admission ticket should not be treated as an all-inclusive ride package. Compare any ride offer with the number of attractions you expect to use, your visit day and the exclusions. Our Arizona State Fair with kids guide explains a practical ride-budget example and the Read & Ride program.

If your main goal is a Coliseum concert, check the specific show before adding ordinary admission. The fair says its reserved Coliseum Concert Series tickets include fair admission. Confirm your chosen performance’s terms rather than buying two overlapping products. Official concert-entry FAQ.

Parking and the Phoenix College shuttle

The dedicated directions page lists the North and West lots as official standard parking options at $25, including fees. Nearby private lots set their own arrangements. Follow the official parking map rather than assuming every lot beside the fairgrounds is organizer-operated.

The free Phoenix College shuttle runs Friday from 5 p.m. and Saturday/Sunday from noon; it does not run Thursday. The last trip toward the fair is listed at 9:40 p.m. Friday and 8:40 p.m. on the weekend, with the last return at 11 p.m. Use the current shuttle schedule for both directions before choosing this option.

A shuttle can suit a group comfortable with the timetable. It is less useful for a Friday lunchtime arrival, because service has not started then. Decide on transport before purchasing a timed performance ticket so the two parts of the trip fit together.

What to do beyond the Midway

The fair combines rides with agricultural displays, exhibitions and entertainment. Its animal program changes across the season: the published schedule places the Youth Livestock Show on October 8–11, the Sheep Show on October 15–18 and the Meat Goat Show on October 22–25. If an animal display is a main reason to attend, match it to your actual date. Official animal schedule.

Choose one scheduled highlight and keep the rest of your route flexible. An exhibit-first visit can include a meal and a small number of rides without requiring an unlimited package. A ride-first visit should leave enough time for queues and a break, rather than using the last gate-entry time as the start of a full evening.

Pack for the entry rules

The fair’s FAQ sets a 12-by-12-inch bag limit, with medical and diaper-bag size exceptions subject to inspection. Outside food and drinks are restricted, but one factory-sealed water bottle per person and empty refillable bottles are allowed. Review the complete entry policy before packing, especially if you have a specific dietary or care need.

Keep tickets and essential belongings easy to reach at screening. Agree on a meeting place and save the return-transport details before arriving. Those small decisions leave more of the visit for activities and less for resolving logistics inside the grounds.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Arizona State Fair open on Mondays in 2026?

No. Its published operating days are Thursday through Sunday.

Does last entry mean the fair closes at that exact time?

No. The organizer distinguishes gate cutoffs, building hours and a variable carnival finish.

Does the Phoenix College shuttle run on Thursdays?

No. The published shuttle schedule covers Friday–Sunday.

Can I use ordinary admission for a reserved concert seat?

Check the concert ticket separately. The organizer says reserved Coliseum Concert Series tickets include fair admission, rather than ordinary fair admission including a reserved seat.

Tips for Visiting the Arizona State Fair

Do not underestimate October in Arizona — it is still hot. Daytime temperatures can climb well into the eighties, so plan your visit around the heat rather than fighting it. Arrive when gates open to enjoy the fairgrounds in relative comfort, retreat to indoor exhibits during the peak afternoon hours, and save the outdoor midway for the evening when temperatures drop and the lights come on. Hydration is not optional: drink water constantly, take advantage of shade and misting stations, and watch for signs of heat exhaustion in kids and older family members.

The headline concerts are a major draw, so check the entertainment lineup before you go and plan your day around the acts you want to see. Popular shows fill up fast and some require separate tickets or early arrival for good seats — do not assume you can wander in at showtime. The Veterans Memorial Coliseum hosts many of the bigger events, and its indoor setting is a welcome air-conditioned break. Beyond concerts, the fair packs in demolition derbies, rodeo events, and cultural performances, so there is always something happening even between headline acts.

Embrace the food-on-a-stick culture — it is practically a state fair religion. Almost everything is available skewered, from corn dogs to deep-fried desserts, which makes grazing easy as you walk. Pace yourself and share, because the portions are generous and the options are endless. Finally, wear sunscreen even on overcast-feeling days, bring a hat, and choose breathable clothing. The fair is a marathon, not a sprint, and the visitors having the most fun are the ones who planned for the desert climate instead of suffering through it.
