The Big E with kids works best when you choose a few satisfying stops instead of trying to finish the whole fair. For the September 18–October 4, 2026 edition, Farm-A-Rama, the circus and age-appropriate Midway rides offer different ways to spend the day. At our October 2 check, only the final weekend remains, making the weekday-versus-weekend ride rules especially important.

| Young children | Ages 5 and under have free fair admission |

| Family priority | One show, one exploration stop and regular breaks |
Begin with Farm-A-Rama
The official Farm-A-Rama page places the attraction in A Barn and lists a sow with piglets, a chick hatchery, giant pumpkins and squash, produce displays, musical farm characters and beekeeper interpretation. These give children several things to notice without organizing the whole visit around rides.
Ask a younger child to find one animal and one crop. An older child might ask how an incubator works or why growers raise unusually large vegetables. Keep questions brief and let the child’s curiosity decide where to linger.
An animal display is not automatically a petting or feeding activity. Follow the staff’s directions, keep hands away from enclosures unless invited and allow time for handwashing before eating. Do not promise a hatch at a particular minute simply because the exhibit includes an incubator.
Choose a circus time as the day's anchor
The Circus Spectacular offers general bleacher seating with fair admission on a first-come basis. Paid premium ringside seats are a separate option. Pick the time that fits meals and rest, then build the nearby activities around it.
Leave time to locate the entrance and join the appropriate line. Included seating does not mean unlimited capacity. If the session is full, have a nearby alternative ready rather than treating one missed show as the end of the outing.
Consider your child’s response to sound, crowds and a fixed sitting period. A shorter visit with an easy exit can suit some families better than a day filled with scheduled performances. Ask staff about the most suitable seating arrangement if your group has particular needs.
Read the ride voucher carefully
The current ticket shop displays a $40.50 Midway voucher. It redeems for an unlimited-ride wristband on one Monday–Friday or 78 credits on Saturday or Sunday. Fair admission is excluded. Do not buy it expecting unlimited rides on October 3 or 4.
Check the rides and height requirements before deciding how much credit to purchase. A child who wants only a few eligible rides may need a different spending plan from an enthusiastic older rider. Do not assume every game or attraction is part of a ride product.
The Midway page describes Kiddieland choices such as the Double Decker Merry Go Round and Teacups. Names alone do not establish eligibility; use the current requirements and operator instructions for the individual ride.
Make a flexible family route
One suggested plan is an agricultural stop, lunch, a circus session and a limited number of rides. Reverse the order if the chosen performance time or a child’s energy makes that easier. This is an optional framework, not a timed official itinerary.
Let each child choose one priority before arrival. Agree on the ride or souvenir budget and keep a break between busy areas. A simple plan reduces the number of negotiations that happen when everyone is tired.
If the group separates, establish a clear meeting location and an adult responsibility for each child. Show older children where to ask staff for help. Keep the day’s ticket and contact information accessible to the adults in your party.
Strollers, nursing and practical breaks
The general FAQ lists stroller rentals at Gates 4 and 9A: $15 for a single stroller and $20 for a double stroller or wagon. Availability still matters, so ask about the current rental arrangement if you depend on one. A rental listing does not establish access inside every show venue.
The Nursing Mothers Center is listed inside the First Aid Building on Hampden Avenue. Locate useful facilities early rather than searching only when a break becomes urgent. For mobility needs, consult the separate accessibility guide and show-specific device policies.
Pack around the current entry rules and the weather. The fair permits sealed plastic water bottles and empty refillable bottles; glass is prohibited. Keep the load manageable and confirm any special food needs directly with the organizer or vendor.
Work out the family total
Add the admission due for each person, parking or transport, food, rides and optional premium seating. Do not count a child’s free gate admission as free rides or free purchases. Our main guide distinguishes the published gate prices from the online amounts.
For a driving family, prepare the posted parking payment before reaching the entrance. The official directions identify Gate 9 for public parking and a different address for rideshare. Check the destination for your chosen method instead of using a general fair address.
Use The Big E fair guide for dates, prices, hours and parking. Finish the visit when the family has had a good day rather than trying to justify staying until the final attraction closes.
